On Thursday, Aston Martin confirmed that Lance Stroll will compete next weekend, and the Canadian himself spoke in Bahrain about his health…
Lance Stroll: I fell off my bike and broke my wrist. I had minor surgery and then physical therapy so I could recover quickly and get here.
This is a private matter. A lot has happened. I had surgery, I was serious about rehabilitation, I wasn’t sure how long it would take to recover.
Now I have several screws in me, like in a car – they were placed during the operation. We don’t know yet when they will be removed. Everything depends on how you feel. I have no physical limitations. I can fly normally. There is some discomfort, but no excruciating pain, nothing getting in the way.
For me, the opportunity to participate in races is important now. If I feel healthy enough to race with a little bit of discomfort I will. Professional athletes in any sport sometimes experience a little discomfort, and if I felt it was unwise, if there was a risk of hurting myself even more, I wouldn’t do it.
This year Formula 1 has a long season, 23 races. It cannot be said that everything is decided in Bahrain. But I’m confident, the doctors are confident, and here I am.
