At McLaren, they assessed the results of winter testing without much optimism and prepared for a difficult season. Team driver Lando Norris tried to cheer fans up in Bahrain on Thursday by saying the team is actually not as bad off as one might think.
Lando Norris: “I don’t think we’re that bad. We may not be as strong as we want to be, but our car is not as bad as people think. However, I do not want to jump to conclusions, because we have to wait until we get through the first phase.
The team is preparing interesting new items – looking forward to it. There is still work to be done to ensure that the updates work properly. There’s a long season ahead, so I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
I’m glad we’re returning to the track – this is the most important thing. It’s always great to test, but it’s much more fun to take part in a weekend of qualifying and a race.
I don’t know what positions we are in, but I believe we are not aligned with the leaders. However, I hope we can fight for the points, that’s the team’s goal for this weekend.”
