Athletistic/Formula-1. With F1 pre-season testing over, one of the most important questions for all fans is what is the hierarchy ahead of the new season? Who is ahead, who is behind and where is their favorite team? One of the biggest misconceptions about testing is taking lap times at face value and making judgments on that basis is pointless.

However, if you look at all three days, a pattern emerges. After three days of F1 pre-season testing, a semblance of hierarchy had established itself. This is not definitive as fuel loads and engine conditions can be important variables in masking a car’s true potential. At the moment, the grid can be divided into four groups based on current information.

1) Red Bull

As expected, pack leader. When it comes to long runs and performance, Red Bull doesn’t seem to have too many problems. The car looks well balanced and the drivers are comfortable. Road holding, like reliability, seems up to par.

2) Ferrari

Ferrari made significant improvements to the car. Straight-line speed has improved, which could be aided by both powertrain improvements and a decrease in the car’s drag. The car looks competitive and the equipment looks promising.

However, there is a problem, and that concerns tire life. The car eats tires for long periods of time, which is never ideal. Long distances are a concern, which is why Ferrari are trailing Red Bull at this stage.

3) Mercedes

Mercedes are in the same place as last season in terms of pecking order. However, there is some optimism as the car does not have the serious dolphin problems that baffled the team last season in F1.

Mercedes should be third in the hierarchy at the start of the season.

4) Aston Martin

The team made the most significant leap of all. The car looked fantastic on the track and caught the eye on the long runs on the final day. Before this race, everyone considered the team to be the leader among the middle peasants.

After this race, many believe the team can even challenge Mercedes and Ferrari. Let’s put Aston Martin in fourth place, but it won’t be surprising to see Fernando Alonso on the podium in Bahrain.

5) Alpine

Alpine has always been a real mystery in Formula 1. None of the car’s three days of testing looked impressive. He may have suffered the most from the Dolphins this season, but he looks like a badass on the track.

In the long run, the France team was faster than most of the average.

6)Haas

When Ferrari makes great strides in F1 pre-season testing, everyone expects Haas to do the same. Looking at the car and how it performed for three days, you can tell Haas can score points this season. The car looks promising. It’s no mean feat, and it’s a solid step up from last season.

7) Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo benefited from the improved reliability of the Ferrari powertrain, but what is particularly remarkable is the consistency of the car throughout the three days of testing. There remains the question of the quality of the car, but it seems more reliable than in 2022.

8) McLaren

McLaren failed. The car doesn’t look very good, and the main problem is the team’s poor reaction to the failures of the new season.

9) AlphaTauri

AlphaTauri is a step up from 2022. Improved efficiency in high speed sections. But last season’s Achilles heel was in the slow sections. The team recognizes that there is still a lot of work to be done in this direction.

10) Williams

Williams showed improvement in overall balance. The car doesn’t look as undercooked as it did last season, which is definitely a plus for the engineers. However, the long trial periods were a bit disappointing, so it’s hard to put the team higher.
