This weekend Alex Albon starts his second season with Williams – and on Thursday commented without optimism on the team’s form …
Alex Albon: “Now I am more of a pessimist than an optimist. Judging by the tests, we are the tenth team in terms of speed. I said something similar last year, but now it’s about how we’re going to spend this season.
Have we come to understand the machine better? We still don’t have a technical director, of course, but we need to make progress in areas where we are lagging behind. The team could add, we are moving in the right direction, but we have a lot more to achieve.
During tests, the wind was great. Depending on the direction, it was sometimes very difficult, especially in slow corners.
If we can finish the season better than we started – like last year – I will be happy. To do this you have to take every opportunity on some tracks – in Monza and Spa we will have better chances, but it’s even better to make the car faster and claim points on more tracks.
This year our car is faster than last year, but the rivals have also improved. In Formula 1 everything is relative. And now it is clear that it will not be easy for us to fight for points in the upcoming Grand Prix. Something unusual has to happen for this to happen.”
