This weekend at the circuit in Bahrain, all Formula 3 and Formula 2 cars will run on a new fuel developed by Aramco and consisting of 55% environmentally friendly components.
After developing technologies in the youth series, Formula 1 will switch to environmentally friendly fuels with the change of engine regulations in 2026 to reduce CO2 emissions to zero by 2030.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1: “The creation of a new fuel is the result of many years of effort, we are pleased to be able to use it in Formula 3 and Formula 2 this year.
The role of these series has never been more important – they continue to train a new generation of riders and test innovative solutions. Formula 1 continues to move towards zero carbon by 2030 and developing advanced, cleaner fuels with our global partner Aramco is a huge step in that direction.”
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President: “The FIA has long advocated for motorsport to bring new technology to the world. The introduction of World Council-approved advanced sustainable fuels to Formula 2 and Formula 3 is an important milestone on the road to carbon neutrality and a key element in our progress towards introducing 100% sustainable fuels to Formula 1.”
