Extreme E: Kovalainen has signed a contract with the Button team

Formula 1 drivers feature prominently in the Extreme E off-road electric series, suffice it to say it features the teams of Lewis Hamilton (X44), Nico Rosberg (RXR) and Jenson Button. And now JBXE, the 2009 world champion team, will be joined by their former colleague Heikki Kovalainen.

The 41-year-old Finn has changed his racing role and has been mastering the rally more and more lately, and he is recording his first successes, which was the decisive factor that predetermined the choice of the team.

Jenson button, owner of JBXE: “Our new rider will be Heikki Kovalainen and we will continue to work with Gedda Hosas. This is great news for our team and for the whole series, because we have invited such a famous racer, with whom I had the pleasure of competing in Formula 1.

Heikki has now moved into the world of rallying, so we didn’t hesitate and contacted him: I’m just really happy that he agreed to join our team!”

Heikki Kovalainen: “I am delighted to participate in the event in Saudi Arabia with JBXE. It’s a great championship with great teams and drivers, so I’m already looking forward to competing with them.

This is another new turn in my career. Since Formula 1 I have participated in GT races and rally races and I am always ready to take on a new challenge. Of course I still have a lot to learn, but I am ready and I hope that we will soon reach the desired speed.”

Gedda Hosas is a Norwegian racing driver, best known for her motocross achievements, but later moved on to rallycross. She made her debut in the ExtremeE series last year and even took the podium once, finishing third in a round on the island of Sardinia.

This year the Extreme E season will start in Saudi Arabia, where a double stage will take place on March 11 and 12.
