Haas F1 is generally pleased with Friday’s results, with Niko Hulkenberg showing the fifth fastest time today, which speaks to the speed capabilities of the VF-23.
Kevin Magnussen (16e): “The first practice was quite successful for us, today we performed many different tests and tomorrow all this information will be useful to us.
Some questions the team have been working on during the break between testing and this weekend, and today we got answers. There’s a lot of work to do and we’ve had two sessions, but I think we’re in a pretty good position.
I’m afraid to curse it, but as usual, as the rivalry promises to be very tight, the results could be anything.
Nico Hulkenberg (5th): “In one fast lap, the car is capable of a high pace, but if we were in the same position on Sunday, we would be very happy, because what matters is the result of the race.
We must continue to prepare for that and there is still plenty of work to do. We need to try to pick up the pace while reducing the rate of rubber degradation. The tasks are not easy, but everyone is on an equal footing and works with the settings,
we need to find the best compromise between lap speed and race pace.
Overall Friday went well and now we need to draw conclusions and make progress.”
Gunter Steiner, team leader: “Everything we learned in the tests came in handy today. During the first session, we continued to collect information and made some adjustments to the settings.
The conditions in the second session were already closer to the conditions that await us in qualifying, and Niko did a great job. Kevin kept working with the settings at the same time and I think he can add more tomorrow.
I hope we have a good day, but at least we continued to study the characteristics of the machine – the VF-23 works reliably, which is already a plus.
