Pirelli is waiting for two pit stops in tomorrow’s race, as in previous years.
Theoretically, the fastest strategy is to start on Soft, then switch to Hard, then depending on each rider’s remaining kits, do the last stretch on Soft or Hard. Selecting Soft has certain advantages.
For those who want to use Medium C2 tires, the best options are Soft – Medium – Soft or Soft – Hard – Medium, but they are inferior in speed.
Mario Isol, Pirelli: “As expected, most teams worked with soft tires during Saturday’s practice in preparation for qualifying. Red Bull were the only team to use this Session Hard without compromising the availability of this line-up in the race, with each rider having two kits. The new Hard roster will undoubtedly be key to tomorrow’s race.
In qualifying the drivers struggled on the Soft, pole holder Max Verstappen set the best lap faster than last year’s pole Charles Leclerc. The fact that this year’s pole position is about eight tenths faster in similar conditions highlights the increased efficiency of the 2023 tyres.”
