In Bahrain, Esteban Ocon qualified ninth and his new Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly finished last…
Esteban Ocon (9th): “It’s fun to attack seriously for the first time with a new car to see what it can do. Reaching the qualifying final is a good result for the start of the season.
We are pleased with the progress we have made since winter testing – today the car behaved better than ever this year. Our opponents are very fast, we have a lot of work ahead of us, but the car is clearly capable of scoring points and that will be our goal at the start of the season.”
Pierre Gasley (20th): “Of course I dreamed of a different start to the season than getting out of the fight already in the first part of qualifying, but I am focused on fighting in tomorrow’s race and I think we have everything to get back to bounce and earn points this weekend.
Unfortunately I couldn’t really feel the car today and it performed below my level. There is still a lot to do to really get used to it, but I am sure that I will perform better in the next qualifying. Now I’m focused on tomorrow’s race and I’m ready to give it my all.”
