Alfa Romeo is satisfied with the results of the first race of the season in Bahrain. Thanks to Valtteri Bottas’ eighth-place finish, the team has earned four points and is fifth in the Constructors’ Championship. Finn’s teammate Guanyu Zhou finished sixteenth, but showed the best lap of the race.
Valttery Bottas (8th): “I’m glad I started the season with earned points. I don’t think we could have expected a better result because the cars that finished at the front were clearly faster than us, so I’m happy. We applied an aggressive strategy and it worked. Good first game.
Our car has a good race pace. Today it turned out that you can earn points with C43, although we still have a lot of work to do, but we are ready.
Guanyu Zhou (16th): “After the first lap I was at a disadvantage. I was stuck in a group of other cars that no one could overtake because everyone could use DRS.
In addition, I had no luck with the virtual safety car, as I was able to switch to Soft shortly before. I couldn’t help it, but the most important thing is that our car has potential.
Our plan is to keep improving as the season progresses. It is nice that Valtteri has earned points after a difficult start to the weekend. I think it’s a good start given the form we finished in the last race of 2022. There is still a lot of work to do, but we will continue to fight to regain the gap.”
