AlphaTauri drivers scored no points in Bahrain, Yuki Tsunoda finished 11th and team rookie Nick de Vries finished 14th…
French toast Team boss: “First of all, congratulations to Red Bull Racing on winning the double – a fantastic start to the season. But I’m not happy with our form. While the car does not meet expectations. We know the weaknesses and prepare novelties that can increase its effectiveness.
Qualifying 14th and 19th allowed us to bounce back – the riders were doing their job. Yuki struggled to finish in the top ten – just a few tenths was not enough. It was important for Nick to get to know the characteristics of the car under race conditions and gain experience.”
Yuki Tsunoda (11th): “The race pace was faster than we expected, so not scoring any points is especially disappointing. Unfortunately I lost a few positions at the start and the Williams cars were very fast ahead of us on the straights – we couldn’t overtake them.
I’m happy with how I managed to control the condition of the tyres, although there were more problems with them today than we expected. It was worth adding speed and attacks, they quickly overheated and the car started to slide.
We have to work seriously on the development of the car in order to impose a fight against rivals in the middle group of teams in the next stage. As the car has no top speed, it might be difficult for us in the Saudi stage, but I remain positive.”
Nick deVries (14th) “I’m quite happy with my race. Of course we have something to add, but the race pace was decent and the car allowed us to battle with some rivals.
Due to the fact that I did not enter the pit lane when the virtual safety car mode was announced, I had to cover a long distance on the second set of hard tyres, but this experience will help me in the following races.
Today we were unable to take any points, but we look forward to the podium in Saudi Arabia with interest – on a faster circuit the balance of power in the middle group will change.”
