Carlos Sainz finished fourth in Bahrain, missing out on a podium finish to Fernando Alonso. The Ferrari driver told his compatriot that he could not stand anything due to the fact that the rear tires of his car wore out faster than those of Aston Martin.
Carlos Sainz: “I want us to get to the track as soon as possible, where the rear tires will be less stressed. Then we can perform better. Our situation with rubber breakdown is just as bad as last year.
On two other machines [Red Bull и Aston Martin] for some reason tires deteriorate twice as slowly. You saw for yourself how much Max Verstappen and Fernando could attack, while we had to take care of the tyres. As soon as we start attacking, we roll right back.
Mercedes has the same level of tire wear as ours, while the other two teams have no tire wear. We need to analyze and understand everything that it relates to and what we can do.
I enjoyed fighting Fernando, but unfortunately I almost missed Lewis Hamilton because of this. As soon as I started attacking to defend against Fernando, the tires immediately overheated.
The problem with our car is the serious rubber degradation – as soon as you start attacking, the tires immediately overheat. As a result, we have no speed space in the race.”
