Sergio Perez started and finished second in Bahrain, but his race wasn’t easy…
Q: Sergio, well done. You showed a good pace, but a lot happened in the beginning…
Sergio Perez: Yes that’s right. Charles overtook me during the first stint. He had fresh tires. When I got within attack range of him, my rubber quickly deteriorated. I had to be patient. It was important to keep it up to 15-16 laps, holding the rubber to get around it.
When I stepped forward, Max was already way ahead. This deficit remained until the finish. I had no chance to fight for the win, it all came down to minimizing the consequences of a bad start. We have to analyze everything to start better in the next race, to achieve the necessary stability.
Q: You drove behind Ferrari for part of the race, you must have learned a lot about their car?
Sergio PerezA: Yes, I really learned a lot of new things, their strengths and weaknesses. We mustn’t forget to tell our engineers during the briefing.
Q: Are you satisfied with the behavior of the machine? Do you feel confident driving the RB19?
Sergio Perez: Yes, I am comfortable. I am satisfied. But there is always something to work on. It’s good that Max and I are developing the car in the same direction. We have started the season well this year. This is our best start in history, very different from last year.
Q: Do you think Fernando Alonso can claim the title this year?
Sergio Perez: I am very happy to see Fernando on the podium. Aston Martin have done a great job in the off-season and Alonso finished top three in the team’s first Grand Prix. They have a very good car. On some tracks they will claim victory. Seasons in Formula 1 are very long now, anything can happen.
