IndyCar: Grosjean wins pole at season opener

Roman Grosjean, former Formula 1 driver with IndyCar since 2021, will start his third season in the American Series from pole position. He set the fastest time on the city circuit in St. Petersburg, more than four tenths ahead of his nearest rival – by the way, he was Colton Herta, Grosjean’s teammate in the Andretti Autosport team.

“Very impressive start to the season! – Roman commented after the completion of qualifying. – I am grateful to our team, we worked really hard after a difficult last season. Now the car has become much faster and better controlled. We found what I was missing, that’s for sure.”

Pole in St. Petersburg is the second such achievement during the overseas period in the career of a 36-year-old rider. He and his family moved to Florida and this year bought a small twin-engine plane for personal use, which he now flies to races.

It is worth adding that other drivers, somehow linked to Formula 1, either in the past, or who dream of going to the World Championship one day, also performed well: we got the second result from Colton Herta already mentioned, but Pato O will start from third Arrow McLaren’s Ward is fourth with Marcus Erickson and seventh with Alex Palow, who will serve as reserve driver for the Woking team this year.
