Max Verstappen won qualifying on Saturday with his 21st career pole, but later admitted he was unsure if he would succeed…
Max Verstappen: “Before qualifying, the weekend was very difficult. We couldn’t find that comfortable balance that was in testing, we had to fight with the car, we tried to make it work.
But with the start of qualifying, the situation has changed for the better. Already in the first session the car behaved, if not ideal, but noticeably better, and in the final I was able to drive two excellent attempts, which allowed me to win pole position.
Until the next Grand Prix, you have to understand why a few days after testing before the start of the weekend, the behavior of the car changed so much, why I had to change my steering to deal with it. However, we will occupy the entire front row of the starting field, so there is nothing to complain about. The season starts better for us than last year and I am very happy about that.”
