Fernando Alonso’s podium in Bahrain is Aston Martin’s first podium since 2021. British team head Mike Krak is pleased with the result, but suggests not to jump to conclusions and not expect Aston Martin to lose every race in the top three finishes.
Mike Krak: “Before the weekend in Bahrain, we were not 100% aware of our capabilities, because it is not known who is doing what at the tests. We knew we looked good and we had a high race pace, but a lot can go wrong. After two laps I wasn’t even dreaming of a podium.
We must not forget that the meeting of Charles Leclerc helped us. In general, I believe that we can now dream of podiums, but we cannot be sure that they are guaranteed to us. The gap to the leaders is still big and we don’t know how much Red Bull has looked after the car as they already had a fairly comfortable lead.
We got one good result, we improved the car, but we are struggling with teams who are used to being at the front and making intensive adjustments to the car. You must respect your opponents. Let’s see how things develop in the future.”
