Fernando Alonso: We still have a long way to go

Fernando Alonso showed the fastest time in the second practice session of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Aston Martin driver is satisfied with the result, but suggests not to jump to conclusions about the team’s form at the start of the season.

In the second practice Lance Stroll had some cornering problems due to the right hand, which he injured a few days before the start of testing. The Canadian assures that this will not prevent him from spending the remaining sessions of the weekend.

Fernando Alonso (1e): “The team has taken another step in the right direction. The car still drives well, but we have to wait and see how things develop.

Now you should not look at the lap time, as we continue to pay attention to some parameters of the car, its settings. The team and I are just starting to work together, so we discuss a lot at briefings, we change the approach to working on the track – we try to reassemble the team in all areas. It’s an interesting process and the team continues to learn every day.

Let’s see what the results will be in the first few races. So far we have only successfully conducted tests. Lawrence Stroll has his own take on the projects he’s involved in – it’s rare for Lawrence to fail at something, so it’s only a matter of time before Aston Martin starts battling with the leaders.

We have a new car, a new technical department and we keep learning. I think we still have a long way to go.”

Lance walk (6th): “I feel good. It was a bit more difficult in the car, but overall ok. In corners I took some of the load off my arm to be a bit more comfortable. I feel like I can definitely drive a car – no problem.

Our pace looks great – great work from everyone on the team. It would be nice if we fully occupied the entire front row in qualifying. We’ll try”.
