Niko Hulkenberg: We get along well with Kevin

Relations between current Haas teammates Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen have not always been smooth sailing. In 2017, a conflict arose between them, as a result of which the riders did not speak to each other for several years. On Thursday Niko said in Bahrain that their relationship has improved.

Nico Hulkenberg: “It happened 12 months ago when I replaced Sebastian Vettel. On Sunday, before the start, all the riders gathered to take a group photo, and Kevin and I lined up one behind the other. Then I thought it was time to break the ice.

I smiled, held out my hand to Kevin and said the exact same words he once said to me. From that moment on, our communication began. We get along really well and this winter we’ve done promotions together in the UK. Now everything is fine – there is no friction between us. He is also a father, we have the same life situation with him and I am ready to work with him.”

Speaking about the balance of power before the start of the season, Niko expressed confidence that Haas will be in the middle group of teams: “I think the battle in the middle group will be very tight again. We say this every year, but really, every little thing can make a big difference.

I think our team is in the middle group. At some stages we will occupy higher positions, at some – lower ones. This depends on the characteristics of the specific track. Our job is to get the most out of the car we have and get results.”
