On Sunday morning, official testing began at France’s Sarte circuit, ahead of the Le Mans 24-hour marathon, which kicks off next weekend.
First of all, the riders of all 62 teams taking part in the race will have to analyze the track condition, as it has rained during the week and the tarmac, to use English motorsport jargon, is very “green” – ie there is still no layer of used rubber, but at the same time is quite dirty.
Therefore, the speeds in the first hours of the test will be moderate, no one will take any risks and more or less adequate results will appear on the lap in the late afternoon. The teams have eight hours of work on the track: the tests started at 9 am local time, there is a break of one to two and then the second session begins, which will end at 6 pm.
Riders who have not competed in the previous five Le Mans will have to complete at least 10 laps today, of which five – for a while, to confirm they are ready for the marathon.
