Extreme E:X44 team has a new lineup and a new structure

X44, Lewis Hamilton’s team behind the Extreme E off-road electric series, has announced changes to both its lineup and structure.

In planning these changes, the team’s management has been guided by the need to expand the diversity of motorsport, i.e. it will follow the course set three years ago by the Hamilton Commission in partnership with Sir Sir’s charitable foundation Mission44 Lewis.

The X44 team, led by Stephanie Karlin, is made up of multinational, ethnic and racial talent, including Stephanie Travers, who used to be one of the engineers for the Mercedes-AMG F1 racing team and the first black woman in Formula 1 history became. on stage during the awards ceremony. And now she has taken the position of deputy head of X44.

Also, the duties of one of the race engineers are performed by George Imafidon, who is part of the Hamilton Commission, and in the third season, the position of junior engineer was added to the team, which was taken by Calvin Langat – and these are far from all such examples.

Jamaican driver Fraser McConnell, who won the 2019 US Rallycross Championship, is part of the team this season. He will be the new teammate of Cristina Gutiérrez, the Spanish racer who became Extreme E champion last year alongside Sébastien Loeb, the legendary French rally driver.

Lewis HamiltonX44 owner, seven-time world champion: “I am very proud of the work my Extreme E team is doing and look forward to seeing them take it to the next level this year.

Based on the findings of the Hamilton Commission, we understand that it is very difficult to break into the motorsport industry and I hope that the X44 will be an effective platform that will bring this kind of opportunity to the next generation. This is crucial for the development of our sport and the team’s new direction will be a way to make a real difference.”

This weekend, the first leg of the third season of Extreme E will take place in Saudi Arabia.
