Mike Krak, head of Aston Martin F1, is ready to confirm the progress everyone saw signs of at the start of the new season, but urges to remain realistic as the team is still a long way from winning.
Mike Krak: “The first weekend of the season was great for us, but we must not forget that Bahrain has a specific track and there will be races on other tracks that will have different characteristics. We’ll see how things develop, but it’s important for us to keep working hard and now we need to prepare for the next phase.
But we really took a big step forward, we were aiming for this and now we have a more efficient car, so I’m looking forward to the next grand prix, much more than a year ago.
A lot could have gone wrong in the last race, but we were lucky after the first lap collision (where there was contact between our two Aston Martin cars), and there could also be some pit stops, some other mistakes, but only our team managed to prevent this.
In the first two years, Aston Martin made no progress: in 2021 the championship finished on the 7th line of the constructors’ championship and in 2022 it also finished seventh. You can’t call it progress, can you? But now we have managed to achieve it, although we are still far from victories.
Yes, we have really made a leap forward. It’s great, but only behind the first race of the season, and to judge progress you need to see how we spend the first three or four races.
To be fair, we have to give the team what they deserve: everyone works, gives 100%, including the most thorough analysis of the events of the Bahrain Grand Prix will be carried out at the Silverstone base, after which we will draw conclusions and try to perform even better in the next phase.
