Yuki Tsunoda: We are 12 km/h slower than Williams

Before the start of the season, AlphaTauri head Franz Tost said the team’s target was sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship, but the first race of the season in Bahrain showed that it would not be easy to achieve such a result . Team driver Yuki Tsunoda said the AT04 car has serious problems with a lack of speed.

“At the start of the race I lost a few positions and I had serious problems keeping a high pace,” Racingnews365 quoted Yuki Tsunoda as saying. – Our speed is far from what we want to see. I was driving behind other cars and was constantly skidding in corners, which led to the tires overheating.

The car as a whole lacks grip and I hope we can improve the situation as the season progresses. The faster we improve on this the better, otherwise Bahrain’s results will continue throughout the year.

At the moment without DRS we are 12 km/h slower than Williams – that’s quite a lot. On the one hand we have too much resistance on straight lines and on the other hand there is not enough grip in the corners. We need more grip or less air resistance.”
