The Spanish edition of The Objective reports, citing its sources, that Mercedes’ headquarters in Stuttgart are ready to assist Aston Martin’s customer team in their fight against Red Bull Racing for the championship title.
Big bosses from Germany reportedly gave Toto Wolff and his team a two-race period to boost their own competitiveness. If they fail to improve in Jeddah and Melbourne, then the best Mercedes engines will not be received by the works team, but by customer Aston Martin.
In theory, Mercedes customers receive exactly the same power plants as the factory team, but in reality, due to the specifics of the production process, there are no absolutely identical engines and there are differences between them that fit within certain tolerance limits.
After release, each power plant is tested and those closest to the standard in terms of parameters are installed on Lewis Hamilton and George Russell’s machines. So, according to The Objective, Hamilton’s car’s engine had about 4 horsepower during testing in Bahrain. more powerful than the customer’s engine in Fernando Alonso’s car, although they were powerplants with the same specifications.
If the Spanish edition is right and Mercedes doesn’t improve the results, the best engines will go to the Aston Martin racers, while the works team will have to make do with the remaining options.
