In 2022, Red Bull Racing took the title and its sister team AlphaTauri finished the season in ninth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Faenza team principal Franz Tost had to answer the question of why the teams didn’t work more closely together, especially given that Aston Martin’s new car looks much more like a Red Bull Racing car than the AlphaTauri.
“As part of the partnership with Red Bull, we are doing everything allowed by the regulations,” Racingnews365 quoted Toast as saying. “We get the gearbox, rear suspension, front suspension elements and hydraulics from them.
We also use one wind tunnel, but we do that separately. For example, we work in the pipe on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and Red Bull employees on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We cannot share the results of the work. When we first started the project in 2006, we got everything from Red Bull. It was an ideal situation, but now this is forbidden by the regulations.
Aston Martin’s car is similar to Red Bull’s simply because they hired half of Red Bull’s aerodynamicists. Of course they built the exact same car and painted it green.
Unfortunately, this option is not available to us as we cannot pick up Red Bull Technology’s leading specialists from AlphaTauri. It’s a matter of money – specialists of this level cannot be cheap.
