For the 2023 race, the organizers of the Miami Grand Prix have upgraded the circuit to increase overtaking opportunities and ensure a tighter battle. Work is nearing completion and podium president Tyler Epp spoke about the specific changes that have taken place on the racetrack compared to last season.
“We have decided to completely replace the top layer of asphalt,” Epp told Racingnews365. – Together with the specialists of the Tilke architectural firm, we have developed a new coating. We think we did very well and yesterday the tarmac was laid on the last stretch. The track is almost done – in the next six weeks we will put the finishing touches and everything will be ready in early May.
There were no major changes to the circuit configuration, but we listened to the views of the drivers, the FIA and Formula 1 on what should be changed in the 13th, 14th and 15th corner chicane. We have changed the location of some of the Tecpro bumpers and barriers in line with the FIA’s decision.
In addition, work was done at the top of the 15th turn. I can’t say the fans will notice these changes, but we believe the work done will allow us to slightly improve the racing on this part of the track.”
Tyler Epp added that organizers have no plans to hold a floodlit race in Miami. I really like the stage in Singapore. Never say never, but we don’t have a night stage in the near future.”
The Miami Grand Prix will take place May 5-7, 2023.
