Mercedes publishes open letter to fans

Before the start of the season, Mercedes was optimistic about the prospects for 2023, but the Bahrain Grand Prix showed that the team is far from triumphant. After the stage, several publications about the situation in the team appeared in the European press – from the alleged ultimatum given to technical director Mike Elliot, to the decision of Mercedes management in Stuttgart to bet on Aston Martin as the works team that did not add.

On Saturday, the Mercedes team’s press office published an open letter to the fans, in which he spoke about the current state of affairs and stressed the value of unity in the current situation.

“Letter to all our fans.

The race in Bahrain was painful for all of us, who are determined to fight for the title every year. The whole team put a lot of effort into creating a car that didn’t live up to expectations, so it hurts us. We know you, the fans, are hurting too. Your passion and support is very important for us to move forward – we feel a common pain.

None of us wanted to be in the current situation, but that’s the reality. And now the simple questions arise: what can we do? What are we doing?

First, we will not panic or think. You know very well that in Formula 1 they like to point the finger quickly or look for switches, but in the team we talk about courage when we fail. Failure builds character and gives us the strength to see opportunity.

We are open and extremely honest about the current state of affairs. The team immediately and calmly began to formulate a plan to get out of this situation, identifying short, medium and long term measures that needed to be taken in order to win again.

We already have new items for the upcoming races and more to come. However, it is impossible to correct the situation overnight – in Formula 1 there is no magic wand.

Second, we hold our heads high and move forward one step at a time. We are Mercedes. We know the standards we aspire to and no one is afraid of the top we have to climb. It won’t be easy, but what’s the value of an easy win?

Such times build character – the team unites, solves problems and overcomes difficulties. We all work together, from Toto, Lewis and George to all the women and men at Brackley and Brixworth bases. And we love this challenge.

Third, we encourage each of you to share the energy that will move the team forward. You can criticize or support, but it’s important to do it correctly. We want our online community to be a safe place for healthy discussions where people respect each other, team members, Mercedes fans or opponents.

We have a zero tolerance policy for discrimination, abuse or bullying of any kind. We will take appropriate action on comments or messages that do not comply with our policies. We need your support to enable respectful communication in our community.

We are ready to work hard to change things in 2023. The recovery process started right after the race – and everyone in this process has their own role.

Are you ready to fight back with us? If not, there will be no hard feelings on our part. If so, let’s do it.”
