Video: Alpine F1 drivers vs Solberg father and son

In early February, we reported that Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon were taking part in the Castrol Challenge, which took place on an ice rink near the Arctic Circle.

It all took place in Swedish Lapland, a fun race ring was built on the ice of Lake Oddjaur and the Formula 1 stars were pitted against Petter and Oliver Solberg, the Norwegian racing dynasty, famous for its success in rally and rallycross.

They drove a 600 hp Citroën DS3 WRX rally, shod on special tires with long spikes. The conditions are as follows: each driver drives one lap, after which a partner takes place behind the wheel. Whoever is faster gets 3 points, whoever is slower gets 1.

When Pierre was told that the car accelerates to 110 km/h in first gear, he did not believe it at first. Not surprisingly, the veteran Solberg Sr. was more than three seconds ahead of him. This is their ‘family car’ and he is well aware of the capabilities of such equipment and knows the art of driving in such conditions.

The difference was even bigger with the Esteban-Oliver couple: the Norwegian drove his lap almost six seconds faster.

In fact, this is the second episode of the mini-series about these competitions, and in the first episode everyone drove ordinary Alpine A110 sports cars, and then the conditions were somewhat different. Points were awarded for perfect steering, and for errors – for example, if the car hit a snowy parapet – the points earned were deducted. And then the Alpine F1 team triumphed, albeit by a slim margin.

But at least one more episode is promised, to be seen in a few days – I wonder what it will be about? ..
