In Bahrain one of the variables was high tire wear, but on a street circuit in Saudi Arabia other factors will be key…
Mario Isol, Pirelli: “In Jeddah it is extremely important to find the optimal settings – and they will be very different than in Bahrain. We will bring the same lineups to Saudi Arabia as last year when they showed excellent stability.
The past two Saudi Arabian Grands Prix have been very unpredictable due to frequent safety car visits, but this is a typical street circuit.
In 2022, the best strategy was a single tire change when the safety car resulted in an early pit stop for most of the hard-tired drivers. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc fought hard, thanks in part to the long life of the tyres, and at the end of this great race the Red Bull driver won by less than a second.
The teams will have to work with the settings to achieve the optimal balance with the new tyres. The circuit in Bahrain consisted of accelerations and decelerations, and in Jeddah high lateral g-forces determine tire wear – and the characteristics of the circuit are completely different from those in Sakhir.
