Last winter Alex Albon took over from George Russell at the Williams. The young rider is enjoying a successful first season with the British team and has already earned points twice.
Many pundits and fans are comparing Albon and Russell and predicting a successful future for Alex, but Williams chief engineer Dave Robson considers such comparisons biased, including with regard to George.
Dave Robson: “The desire to compare these riders is very natural, not only because they are associated with Williams, but also because their careers have a lot in common. However, I am not sure whether such comparisons are objective. They are different and if George were playing for us now, his results would be just as good as Alex’s.
Albon has a lot of talent. He not only drives the car, but also unites the team and tries to squeeze the most out of it every Sunday. I believe that a successful future awaits him.
In the final stages we were not always able to perform brilliantly in qualifying, but on Sunday Alex managed to find a balance between aggression in attack and defense of positions. He knows how to work with tires and control their condition during the race, which allows us to be more flexible with the strategy. We know Alex can get the most out of the car.”
