Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are optimistic about the second moto of the season in Jeddah. The team expects to once again demonstrate the fast pace at which Alonso was able to climb the podium in Bahrain.
Fernando Alonso: “The car was fast in Bahrain and we enjoyed the weekend and took the first podium of the season. But now all attention is on the next stage in Jeddah. The team is waiting for a new challenge, because the track in Saudi Arabia is different from the one we performed on in the first race.
In the two weeks in Bahrain we learned the track and the conditions very well, but from next Friday the learning curve will be much steeper. I don’t think we will understand the true joining of forces for the Australian stage – for this you need to spend three weekends on three completely different circuits – in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
We are firmly on our feet and continue to work hard to maintain the momentum of the start of the season. We will try to achieve another high result this weekend.”
Lance walk: “I was very pleased with our performance in Bahrain and now we have to do our best to repeat the level of the second race of the season in Saudi Arabia.
As usual, the first few races are all about getting to know the new car. The circuit in Jeddah is completely different from Bahrain, which gives the team a valuable opportunity to gather more information and better understand the characteristics of the AMR23.
Jeddah has an incredibly fast circuit – the fastest city circuit on the calendar. We are facing a real challenge, but in Jeddah it is interesting to fly. We had two races in Saudi Arabia and each of them had a safety car on track. You have to be ready to take every opportunity in the race.”
