Lando Norris: We’re not talking about a crisis

At the FIA press conference in Jeddah, Lando Norris expressed confidence that the issues that prevented McLaren in Bahrain have already been resolved, and this weekend the British driver expects to battle for the points.

Lando Norris: “I would say we are more optimistic this weekend, although in Bahrain I was confident that we would finish in the top ten and earn points. But then we got in the way of problems, so now our plan is to minimize them, avoid problems and make up for lost time.

In Bahrain we didn’t really have a chance to get into the qualifying final, and when it comes to the speed of the car, we have to work hard here. It seems that some cars are fast in qualifying, but at the Grand Prix distance the drivers of these teams are starting to have problems. But there are also reverse examples, and when we talk about McLaren, we are somewhere in the middle.

Alec Albon was ahead of me then and I was able to fight him until we got into trouble. It is difficult to say what kind of result you can expect in Jeddah, because this track has a completely different configuration, different asphalt surface characteristics, and I hope this will help us all.

In the morning I took a walk along the track and I can say that the changes compared to last year are quite noticeable, especially in terms of safety. I can also say that the 22nd and 23rd corners have become steeper, so the speeds will decrease slightly there. Although all these changes are not very visible from the outside, and I repeat, they are primarily intended to improve safety, they are unlikely to have a strong effect on the handling.

I like this track because it is very fast and you have to get close to the barriers here. It’s important to find the limit of the possible as soon as possible, and qualifying on Saturday is usually fun here.

If we talk about the technical problems that prevented us in the first phase of the season, they were very rare, so there is confidence that our team, together with the Mercedes mechanics, have dealt with them. Therefore, we are not talking about a crisis at all, there is nothing of the kind and close. I’m sure we can pick up a lot of points this weekend.”
