Two weeks ago, Fernando Alonso climbed to the podium in Bahrain, losing only to Red Bull Racing rivals. The Aston Martin driver doesn’t know how competitive the AMR23 car will be in Jeddah, but he plans to attack anyway.
Fernando Alonso: “We’ll see how we perform this weekend – we won’t know until we go out on track. The track in Jeddah is a bit different to Bahrain – there are more fast corners and on long straights you have maximum speed We will soon find out if our car is competitive in such conditions.
In the race in Bahrain, our car was second fastest, so the podium was well deserved, but I don’t know what will happen in Jeddah and Australia. After the first three phases, we get a better picture of our possibilities.
The team is happy with the performance in the first race and we are ready to attack in the second. There is no doubt that there are certain difficulties ahead, but we will act according to the circumstances at every stage.
I saw changes on the track, which improved visibility in some corners. The curbs have gotten lower – more or less all of our requests from last year were heard and carried out. Racers can be happy with the changes on track – tomorrow after the pilot we will see if our positive attitude will continue.”
