The Red Bull Racing drivers dominated the opening round of the season in Bahrain. At a press conference in Saudi Arabia, Sergio Perez suggested Ferrari’s rivals in Jeddah could impose a fight on them.
Sergio Perez: “Last year I started from pole position in Jeddah, which gives me confidence this weekend. But every year the challenges change – we have a different car, different tyres, the track itself has changed a bit. I appreciated the track updates on the simulator, but I have yet to take a walk on it. In Formula 1 it doesn’t matter what you have achieved in the past – every year a new challenge awaits you.
I like the track – it’s quite difficult, especially in qualifying, but I hope we have a good session on Saturday because starting position is very important in Jeddah.
At this circuit different characteristics of the car are required than in Bahrain. Tire wear is not that strong so we think Ferrari will be much stronger this weekend and Mercedes should close the gap a lot.
In Bahrain our strength was dealing with tyres, but here it is different. In Jeddah, the requirements for a car are completely different.”
