McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo are optimistic about the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Lando, who not only battled rivals at the stages in Spain and Monaco, but also a sore throat and its consequences, assures he has made a full recovery. The British team is looking forward to a productive weekend on the city circuit in Baku.
Lando Norris: “I’m happy to go to Baku! It’s great to play on a different city track. Last year’s race showed that anything can happen. It will be interesting to see how the new generation of cars will perform on a unique track.
I raced twice in Baku and got points both times. I hope I can continue this trend and bring points for the team this year.
The weekend without competitions gave me peace of mind – I regained my strength after two difficult weeks. I wonder what I can achieve in the next doubles – rather!’
Daniel Riccardo: “I’m a big fan of the circuit in Baku – it has some interesting features, and in the first corner there is always an interesting fight when three cars try to pass it side by side. There are many different strategies on this track, but just as important is the starting position, although there are opportunities for overtaking thanks to the longest straight in the championship.
On urban roads there is an element of unpredictability, but I am ready to take every opportunity. Although the Monaco stage didn’t go the way I wanted, I am confident that we can compete for the positions ahead and make the most of the coming weekend.
Andreas Seidli, team leader: “The team is ready for the stage in Baku after the double European races. We’ve done a lot of work over the past week to analyze the data we’ve collected and evaluate the performance of new products to make sure they’re as optimized as possible. In addition, the team had the opportunity to rest and prepare for the next exciting doubles.
Although Baku and Monaco have city tracks, they require a different approach to car settings. Thanks to the long straight we will see the maximum speed during the season – rarely on city roads do you have to adjust the cars for low downforce.
What doesn’t change on city roads is that you have to pay for every mistake. On the one hand, this complicates the task, but on the other hand, it offers additional opportunities. I’m sure we have an exciting race ahead of us. We will continue to attack this weekend for maximum results and then we will go to Canada.”
