Toto Wolff: “I don’t follow the rumours, but I know about our current relationship with Lewis and George – everything else doesn’t matter. We sit down at the negotiating table when it matters, when some details need to be clarified – mostly we talk about dates.

I don’t think Lewis will leave Mercedes. We trust each other completely. Over the years we have built a very strong bond, we have no reason to doubt each other, despite the difficult start to the season. I look forward to when these failures will end and we will return to the previous form.

I understand that a driver who expects to win races and titles needs a car that matches his potential. And if we can’t foresee him for the next two years, Lewis will look for options to continue his career elsewhere. I don’t think he’s looking for a contract with another team at the moment, but I won’t be offended if the failure continues in a year or two.”
