Following the results of Friday’s free practice in Jeddah, Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are gearing up for a tough qualifying and race. There is no question of fighting for victory, but the team will try to show the highest possible result.
George Russell (5e): “I don’t know what engine modes the rivals used. There is no doubt that Red Bull is ahead, but we have already learned a lot that will help the team in the medium and long term.
We’ll see what we can do tonight. We have to find the optimal settings, but as much as I’d like to, we won’t gain back a second in a night.
The team will have to understand whether the chosen new direction is the right one. The boys and girls on the base work diligently and we collect information for them on the track. We have to get the most out of the car we have this weekend.”
Lewis Hamilton (11th): “The situation is about the same as in the last leg – we are a second or so behind. I had problems in both sessions, but we will study everything in detail and try to correct the balance so that the car is easier to drive.
The car is difficult to drive, but I know everyone at the base is working as efficiently as possible, so it’s only a matter of time before the situation changes for the better. You just have to be patient. Now our competitive position is about the same as last year.”
