Alpine riders Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly came fourth and sixth respectively in the second practice in Jeddah. The team really appreciates its potential this weekend and plans to reach the qualifying final with two cars.
Esteban Ocon (4th): “I’m excited to be back in Jeddah for a really fast and exciting urban circuit that will keep everyone on their toes.
Friday was productive – we tried different solutions that will help us in qualifying and in the race. The car looks fast and I think we can get even more speed out of it on Saturday.
The team did a great job and completed the entire program. In the evenings we will work more to be in shape on Saturday. All in all, have a nice day.”
Pierre Gasley (6th): “It’s great to be back in Jeddah on a very fast and exciting track. We’ve had a busy day as we continue to explore the 2023 car. I must say that we are satisfied with the work done.
Two weeks after Bahrain, it’s nice to get on a new track and solve new problems. There are very high speeds in Jeddah, so to complete a circle quickly, you have to do everything right. The car handled well and we have some ideas on where to go with the settings to get more out of the A523 this weekend.
I am focused on working with the engineers to prepare well for qualifying and to perform better than last time.”
Pat Fry, chief engineer: “Productive Friday in Jeddah. We were curious to see how the car behaves on a different type of track, which requires little downforce in fast corners, and there are many.
We are satisfied with the work done. Both riders gave the same feedback on which direction to go with the settings, so we have good form this weekend.
The team has collected a lot of information for analysis, which will help prepare for qualifying. We aim to start from a higher position than in Bahrain to have a better race on Sunday. A good start, and more to come.”
