James Vowles recently led the Williams team, but he has no doubts that it will be able to overcome the protracted crisis period. Although he is willing to admit that not all tracks can achieve consistent results.
James Vowles: “Like last year there will be circuits during the season where our car has to perform very well, the Jeddah circuit for example suits us better than the Bahrain circuit. But at the same time, you should not jump to conclusions, because both are not the most typical. There will be many circuits on which these or those weaknesses that are still inherent in our car will appear.
But I’m glad to see the whole team working, I would say, with a twinkle. People understand that we are on the right track, they see the goal we are pursuing and they see us moving forward.
It is important that Frederic Brousseau, a specialist with over 20 years of experience in such a large company as Pratt & Whitney, joins our team. He knows how to manage large teams, how to work well coordinated and efficiently at critical moments, which is all the more important in circumstances with limited budgets.
When it comes to drivers, it was clear from the very first rounds of pre-season testing that Logan Sargent can show good pace. I tried to be discreet in my assessments, wondering if it would take him time to adjust. But he coped well with the pressure that inevitably came with his debut race and showed real maturity. I have no doubt that he will make noticeable progress as the year progresses.
It is clear that he does not yet have the experience of Alex Albon, but he is characterized by this youthful passion and he tries to squeeze everything out of the car, down to the last millisecond.
