Max Verstappen led the minutes of the second session of the free races of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. His Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez set the third fastest time. Both riders noted that the battle is fiercer this weekend than in Bahrain.
Max Verstappen (1st): “There were no problems with the gearbox – the usual downshift fine-tuning. We do this all the time.
I think the day went well, but there are things we can do better. As for pacing on a long set of circles, the gaps seem to be minimal. Everything will again come down to monitoring the condition of the rubber, but as the tires on this track are less worn, the lap times are very close. The joining of forces is certainly not the same as in Bahrain.
Sergio Perez (3rd): “The track conditions during the first and second practice sessions were different, so it was important to understand everything. I’ve had some minor mechanical problems with the car, but I hope the team can fix them on Saturday. I hope this allows me to go faster.
Today it was not easy to find a rhythm, but at least we got a sense of the machine’s capabilities. We were fast, but as expected our rivals are strong on this track.
I hope Max remains my main competitor, but I expect several teams to take a step forward on Saturday.”
