Lamborghini, which plans to debut in the WEC in 2024, confirmed that these plans will be implemented with the technical support of French company Ligier Automotive.
Lamborghini’s LMDh-class sports prototypes will participate in the program of two championships – in the US IMSA series and the World Endurance Championship, which is held under the auspices of the FIA.
In recent years, Ligier has not competed at the highest level of international competition, but the company has continued to provide active technical assistance to the WEC LMP2 and LMP3 teams.
In addition, Ligier has partnered with Peugeot on the 9X8 hypercar program, which is expected to debut in July.
Jacques Nicolet, President of Ligier Automotive: “We are very proud that Lamborghini has chosen us to run their program in the LMDh category. The priority task for all our employees is to achieve our goals in record time.”
Ligier Automotive will be the fourth company to partner with teams whose cars will compete on US tracks in the IMSA LMDh series: BMW and Cadillac are partnering with Dallara, Acura and Alpine with Oreca, and Porsche has chosen Canadian Multimatic as a partner.
According to Lamborghini’s plans, tests of the future sports prototype should start in the winter of 2023.
