Haas drivers thwarted by brake problems

In Jeddah, the Haas riders were close to the qualifying final, with Niko Hulkenberg 0.040 seconds behind and Kevin Magnussen less than two tenths. Technical problems with the brakes prevented both drivers from performing.

Nico Hulkenberg (11e): “As usual, the results were very compact. My first lap time was scrapped, but it was still possible to qualify for the qualifying final. Everything was determined by the minimum separation.

Thanks to the fine [Шарля Леклера] I’m going to tenth place. With a starting position like that you can fight in the race, so tomorrow I will do my best. I’m sure we have the pace to fight in the middle group.”

Kevin Magnussen (13th): “I was less than two tenths short of reaching the final. The separations were minimal, so it’s a shame there were problems with the car. Our car was fast, so we could make it to the final. I hope next time will have better luck.

Our problem is in the brakes. In addition, downshifts didn’t shift as they should. I’m not in the worst position, so let’s try to get it right.”

Gunter Steiner, Team boss: “We are quite happy with the qualifying results, although they could have been a little better. In theory it was possible to make it to the final with two cars – that’s what speed is for, but the second part of qualifying didn’t go entirely smoothly.

Kevin had trouble shifting and braking. Niko also had problems with the brakes, and we ran out of time due to the weigh-in procedure at the end of the session – in the end we couldn’t continue.

The fight is very exciting, but we have a fast car, in the race we start tenth and thirteenth – good positions to earn points. I see the progress of the team.”
