Pirelli is looking forward to one pit stop in the upcoming race with a combination of Medium and Hard compounds – this pair is slightly faster than the other two options, although the difference is relatively small.
To implement this strategy, “the pit stop window is between laps 18 and 25, for the Soft – Hard option between laps 13 and 20, and for Medium – Soft between laps 27 and 34.
In the case of two pit stops it is possible to start on Soft, switch to Medium between laps 10 and 15 and return to Soft between laps 32 and 38.
Mario Isola, Pirelli: “We saw an interesting qualifying session on Saturday with many memorable moments. The C4 tires performed well, both in one fast lap and in a series of laps.
Already in the first part of qualifying it became clear that it was important to have good grip on the first, second and third fast laps on the same set, driving circles in between to cool the tires. Last year this approach was used on many tracks and now it works.
Based on the data collected over the weekend, the fastest strategy is one pit stop with little difference between the three possible lineup combinations.
