Aston Martin asked the stewards to review the fine imposed on Fernando Alonso after finishing in Jeddah as important new evidence has emerged in the case.
Formally, the penalty was imposed due to the fact that while serving the five-second penalty, the mechanic hit the car with the rear jack before the time expired.
The new evidence was the minutes of the last SAC meeting and video evidence of seven separate cases where cars hit the jack while serving a sentence similar to Fernando’s and were not fined.
The team stated that the agreement allegedly presented between the FIA and the teams that any touching of the car, including using a jack, would be considered “working” with it was incorrect, therefore the basis for the decision of the stewards was wrong.
The stewards listened to the team’s arguments and canceled the ten-second penalty. Fernando moved back to third at the finish. The podium in Jeddah was his 100th of his career.
