spanish runner “Aston Martin” Fernando Alonso moved back to third place in the final protocol of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, according to the Formula 1 website.
After rewarding the winners, the stewards decided on a 10-second penalty for the Spaniard. Alonso dropped to fourth in the final standings for failing to serve a penalty during the race.
Before the start, the 41-year-old took the wrong position on the grid, stopping the car outside the white line. From a distance, Alonso received a 5-second penalty, which he served at the pit stop in safety car mode, breaking the rules.
The race marshals made the initial decision on the 10 second penalty after seeing the car hit the jack before the 5 second penalty expired. However, Aston Martin has proven that this contact with the jack is in no way a “team member’s job with the car”.
The victory in the race was taken by the Mexican Sergio Perez, the second was the Dutchman Max Verstappen (both Red Bull).
