This coming weekend, audiences at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival will see the legendary Brabham BT19, used by Sir Jack Brabham to win the 1966 Formula 1 title. The son of three-time champion David and grandson Sam take the wheel.
The late Sir Jack Brabham spoke to Speedcafe.com in 2010 and called it one of the best cars of his career. It was developed by designer Ron Tauranaq – the first letters of the racer’s and designer’s surnames formed the BT index, carried by all Brabham cars, until the team, changing hands, finally faded into obscurity in the early 1990s hit.
This year’s Adelaide Motorsports Festival celebrates Brabham’s 30-year history in Formula One. Alongside the iconic BT19, viewers will see the 1989 Brabham BT58 Judd, raced by Martin Brundle and Stefano Modena in the 1989 season, as well as the Brabham BT60B. driven by Damon Hill performed in 1992.
