After the finish, Sergio Perez commented on the results of the stage in Jeddah where he took pole and won the race…
Q: Sergio, what place does this win have in your assessment?
Sergio Perez: I knew that once I overtook Fernando I would have no rivals, but when the safety car took off I thought, “Not this time.” Luckily I hadn’t visited the pits at that time.
After the restart, in fact, a new race started. Max quickly moved into second and it was important to hold on to this lead until the finish. I attacked with all my strength.
I liked the race, especially the end, when Max and I were fighting – then he was tenth faster than me. At first we were told to keep a certain pace, but it started to approach and I also added.
Q: After the finish, Christian Horner called this the best race for you in Red Bull Racing. Do you agree?
Sergio Perez: Hard to say. Good race, I did my job. We did a great job with the whole team. I’m sure Melbourne will be even better!
Ask the Only small hitch came at the start, when Fernando got ahead of you in the first corner. Tell us about the first 10 seconds of this Grand Prix?
Sergio Perez: I didn’t start well. We need to work with engineers and find a solution. Fernando started perfectly and stepped forward. But I understood that there were fifty laps to the finish and nothing was over yet. It was important not to react too emotionally to what happened and to take care of the tapes.
Q: Can this be called the best car you’ve ever driven at Red Bull?
Sergio Perez: You know, now I’m very happy with the car. Before qualifying, the weekend wasn’t quite how I wanted it to be, but it was excellent in the race.
Q: Sergio, over the past ten rounds you have been actively communicating with the team over the radio. You were happy with the team’s decision to let you fight your partner. Or, given the small problems, would you rather strengthen your position?
Sergio Perez: The team always has more information than we do. I felt a strange vibration, I remembered what happened to Max’s car in qualifying, but I understood that the team would do everything they could to have both cars finish with maximum points.
Reliability issues are always a possibility. We saw an Aston Martin pull up in Jeddah. At some point, they may appear with us. We will continue to work and try to resolve all identified issues. I hope they don’t hit us soon.
Q: You and Max may only play the title between themselves. How do you deal with it?
Sergio Perez: If so, then the team really built the best car and we both have excellent chances.
