Alpine earns points with two cars

In Jeddah, Alpine scored points for the first time this season with two cars – Esteban Ocon finished eighth, Pierre Gasly – ninth. This moved the team up to fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, ahead of Alfa Romeo.

Esteban Ocon (8th): “Overall the team had a good race. The final results reflect our race pace and eighth place is our maximum so far. It’s great to score points with two cars, especially after Bahrain, but we can’t be completely satisfied with results like that.

The car has potential and we will continue to learn and improve to keep up with the competition. We want to fight for higher positions and we will continue to work hard for this. The team will analyze this weekend, after which we will turn our attention to preparations for the Australian Grand Prix, where we will try to achieve more.”

Pierre Gasley (9th): “I am absolutely happy to have scored points in the first two races for the team. I think eighth and ninth place is our maximum. We have taken some positive steps forward. Every time I get behind the wheel I learn something new, so it’s important to keep learning to improve the car.

I can add to it myself, especially in qualifying, so that I can fight for higher positions in the race. I look forward to evaluating the weekend with the team to continue learning and improving at the next round in Australia.”

Otmar Safnauer, Team boss: “The race showed our strengths and highlighted areas where we need to improve. Esteban’s eighth and Pierre’s ninth is probably our maximum for today, but the most important thing is that the team is taking steps towards our goals. At the moment we are not yet where we want to be and there is still a lot of work to be done if we want to fight for more.

We have outpaced some of the teams that outperformed last year and need to continue to close the gap. In line with the car modernization plan, we have planned new items for the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks, where the team will try to use the knowledge gained earlier to get another good result.
