In Saudi Arabia, Yuki Tsunoda could have given AlphaTauri the first points of the season, but with four rounds to go he missed out on tenth place to Kevin Magnussen. His teammate Nick de Vries finished fourteenth.
Yuki Tsunoda (11th): “I finished 11th – it’s a shame to lose position with only four laps to go. The team did a great job and did everything perfectly. I had great speed on Medium tires – compared to qualifying we managed to add. I am happy with what we have achieved together with the team, but at the same time I am disappointed that I did not earn any points.
We will come back stronger in Melbourne – the team will bring new items to the next stage. We are already fully focused on the next stage and will try to get the most out of the car. The team will continue to work with full dedication to fight for places at the top of the mid-group and consistently earn points.”
Nick deVries (14e): “Today I didn’t work well enough. I didn’t start in the best way and started again, then got stuck in traffic. It was difficult to get into the rhythm and regain positions, especially on the “DRS train”. I couldn’t attack at full strength because I couldn’t find the right balance between attacking and saving rubber. As a result, I did not warm up the tires to the desired temperature.
Closer to the finish I found myself on an empty track trying to overtake Guanyu Zhou – at that point my pace was fast and steady. In general, we have made a step forward compared to Bahrain and that is positive. We must continue in the same spirit and attack.”
