Krak: We didn’t get any advantage at the pit stop

Mike Krak, head of Aston Martin F1, reacted rather sparingly to the decision of the stewards of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix that saw Fernando Alonso lose third place.

Question: What is your position on the fine?
Mike Crack: First of all, we need to analyze all the videos in detail to find out what exactly happened then. At the moment we are doing this, so I cannot say for sure what conclusions we will come to.

Q: Apparently the stewards think the rear jack was placed under Fernando’s car before the five second penalty expired. Can you tell me how you measure those five seconds, what do you tell the mechanics when it’s time for them to get to work?
Mike Crack: According to the rules, you are not allowed to drive the car for five seconds. This is probably a somewhat vague wording and we want to check everything. Of course we developed a clear procedure, the countdown has started and everything went according to plan. I think everyone saw that we didn’t get an unfair advantage at the pit stop.

In general, let’s see how further events will develop.

Question: Do the rules provide for the possibility of an appeal?
Mike Crack: We are now looking into this so I prefer to refrain from commenting further as I am not yet sure how we proceed.
