Magnussen: I hope the progress in Melbourne is confirmed

In Saudi Arabia, Kevin Magnussen finished 10th and opened the scoring with points, thanks to being ahead of Japanese AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda towards the end of the race.

Kevin chased him for 25 laps, but was able to pull ahead with just five laps to go, after a heady overtake on the inside radius in the final corner.

“It was a good run! remarked the Dane. – Yuki defended well and deflected my attacks for many laps just by positioning his car correctly on the track. This violated the aerodynamic stability of my car at critical moments, while Yuki always managed to get out of the last corner well, allowing him to defend himself in the 1st corner.

But in the end I beat him to it, so I’m very happy. I think we were able to take a good step forward in working with the settings this weekend with the Haas team. Rubber degradation was much lower than in Bahrain, so there is reason to rejoice.

It looks like we’ve made some real progress and I hope that will be confirmed in Melbourne and the next races. We are waiting for the track, where there is a more abrasive surface, and then it will become clear whether we have really improved the car. But now we are happy!”
